Is this a recreational league with games?
No. The Stars Program is an instructional basketball development program focused entirely on skill building and learning fundamentals.
Does my child need basketball experience?
Not at all. The program is designed for beginners and welcomes children of all skill levels.
Are boys and girls both eligible?
Yes. SHYBA Stars is a coed program for 6-year-old boys and girls (6yo as of August 31 that season).
How often do players meet?
Players attend one session each Saturday during the season for a total of 10 instructional sessions.
What if we cannot attend our assigned time slot?
Families may attend the alternate session on the same day if they notify the program director in advance.
Will my child receive a uniform?
Participants receive a SHYBA Stars T-shirt. No game uniform is required since the program does not include organized games.
What equipment do we need?
Just athletic shoes, comfortable clothing, and a water bottle. SHYBA supplies basketballs and all training equipment.
Why doesn't the program include games?
At age six, the primary goal is developing motor skills, basketball fundamentals, confidence, and enjoyment of the sport. The instructional format allows coaches to maximize teaching time and skill development.
